Wiz Khalifa's 'O.N.I.F.C.' Has Strong Debut; Rapper Credits Marriage ...

ATLANTA ? Rapper Wiz Khalifa says preparation for becoming a first-time father and husband has helped put him in a more mature musical state of mind.

But that doesn't mean Khalifa will refrain from his weed-smoking, rock star-like ways.

"I'm at a different point in my life," said Khalifa, whose sophomore album, "O.N.I.F.C.," debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's 200 albums chart this week with 141,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Scan.

"I just want to say things a little bit differently and express myself on another level on the album," he continued. "I have new responsibilities, but I'm always going to smoke weed and enjoy myself. My son is going to love me for the same reasons others do. I'm not just going to turn into some old fart."

For the 25-year-old Khalifa, life is just getting started. He and his fiancee, Amber Rose, who is in the third trimester of her pregnancy, are expected to get married at a courthouse in a few weeks.

Khalifa said he and Rose ? an ex-girlfriend of Kanye West ? want to marry before the birth of their son. He said they will hold a traditional wedding ceremony later with family and friends.

"There's a lot of excitement going on," the Pittsburg-based rapper said. "I just worked my (butt) off and tried to be better every day. I've just tried to move forward naturally."

Rose, a model and rapper, appears on Khalifa's new album. It also features Pharrell, 2 Chainz and the Weeknd, who appears on the current single "Remember You." The first single, "Work Hard, Play Hard," is a platinum Top 20 hit.

While the album is finally out, Khalifa and his record label, Atlantic Records, initially struggled over the creative process for "O.N.I.F.C.," which stands for "Only N-word in First Class."

He said his label wanted him to focus on producing big hits, similar to his omnipresent jam "Black and Yellow," which skyrocketed to the top of charts and helped previous album, "Rolling Papers," sell nearly 200,000 copies in the first week last year and eventually reach gold status.

Khalifa felt otherwise, saying there was a lack of communication between himself and label executives.

"I had less freedom to be creative, but it's all about communication," he said. "Business-wise, people want to compare. That's the main thing you have to get over. "

Khalifa calls the experience a test.

"You're either going to let it destroy you, be bigger than you or you be bigger than it," he said. "You have to go through conflict and disagreement. You can't shut down. You have to really be about your business, your money. If you quit, the label is not. They're going to keep going and make money. You do, too."

Independent Sector Defends Charitable Deduction - Government ...

Politico, a newspaper widely circulated in Washington, published a two-page ad from Independent Sector on Monday that provided a straightforward message to Congress and President Obama: ?Don?t push charities over the fiscal cliff.?

The ad, signed by 945 organizations, urges Congress and the president to ?preserve the charitable deduction?s powerful incentive for giving? as they negotiate a deal to avert tax increases and spending cuts scheduled to begin January 2.

?Since 1917, our nation?s tax system has strongly encouraged Americans to give back to their communities, and the broad concept of charity on which the deduction is based has given rise to a diverse and pluralistic set of organizations all dedicated to the public good,? says the ad, which is an excerpt of a letter the nonprofits sent to Mr. Obama and House Speaker John Boehner.

The ad is part of a broader strategy to persuade President Obama and Congress to avoid legislation to limit or abolish charitable deductions.

Independent Sector declined to say how much it paid for the two-page advertisement, but?in late November it sent an e-mail to its members seeking donations of $250 to $1,000 to pay for it. A Politico rate card for 2011 showed that a full-spread color ad cost $24,340, but did not specify rates for nonprofits.

The advertisement comes a week after more than 250 nonprofit officials lobbied members of Congress to protect the charitable tax deduction as part of the?Charitable Giving Coalition.

White House officials have stepped up their pressure on nonprofit leaders as well. In three meetings last week, senior Obama administration officials asked nonprofit leaders to support the president?s plan to raise the highest rate now paid, 35 percent, to 39.6 percent on the wealthiest taxpayers.

Mr. Boehner has rejected the concept and wants to produce more government revenue by closing tax loopholes and deductions.

White House officials have been telling nonprofit leaders that the Republican plan includes a proposal to place an annual limit on all itemized deductions, including the mortgage deduction, at $17,000 to $50,000 per taxpayer.

President Obama?s plan proposes to reduce the tax deduction that wealthy people get for their charitable gifts from 35 percent to 28 percent.

But some nonprofit leaders, including Diana Aviv, chief executive of Independent Sector, have resisted taking political sides on the issue. The Alliance for Charitable Reform issued a statement last week saying the White House should not be pressuring charities to join the ?political wrangling? around the issue.

Independent Sector?s letter to the president and Congress says that plans to limit the deduction would deter giving.

?We are deeply troubled by reports that an aggregate cap, whether a dollar-limit or percentage, on the value of the charitable deduction is under consideration as a potential short-term revenue solution during the lame-duck session,? says Independent Sector?s letter. ?Research has suggested that a cap on the charitable deduction could reduce charitable giving by as much as $7-billion a year; this would come on top of the nearly $20- billion annual decrease in giving since the economic downturn began in 2007.?

Journalists' Pets Fed Up With Sandy - FishbowlDC

A number of Washington area journalists expressed their feelings about Superstorm Sandy last night by venting about animals. Lisa De Pasquale, a conservative writer based in Alexandria, Va., expressed outrage early on in the day. ?I can?t believe the local news has to remind people to bring their pets in during the storm,? she wrote on Twitter. ?I hate people.?

?OVER IT,? screamed Politico?s Kate Nocerra in all-caps, posting a picture of her cat (pictured here).

And Bryan Sears, assistant regional editor and Baltimore County government and politics reporter for Patch.com, remarked, ?Sam, my Golden, has had enough of Hurricane Sandy.? (Sam is pictured here.)

HuffPost Blog Editor Erin Ruberry, meanwhile, displayed her pet amid the storm. ?Kitten + hot chocolate = how to wait out #Frankenstorm #Sandy,? she wrote. (Her kitten is pictured below.)

Teen accused of killing mom, boyfriend in bed

By NBC News staff

An 18-year-old Florida youth with a history of mental health issues shot his mother and her boyfriend to death in their bed and then called 911 to surrender, sheriff?s officials said Sunday.

Benjamin K. Bishop?is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the shotgun slayings of his mother,?Imari Shibata, and her boyfriend, Kelley Allen,?both 49, at the mother's home in Oldsmar.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Bishop shot the pair multiple times early Sunday morning following a series of arguments with his mother.

According to a sheriff?s press release:

Bishop advised detectives that on Saturday, October 27th, his mother told him to get a job, take his medicine for his mental health issues, and to start paying rent. Bishop said he also had a discussion with Allen over the laundry. Saturday night, Bishop said he was angry and retrieved the shotgun after the arguments, loaded the weapon and shot his mother and Allen in their bedroom. He told detectives he then reloaded the shotgun and shot them again.

Bishop called 911 to report the shootings and surrendered to deputies at his front door, sheriff?s officials said.

Detectives said a friend bought the shotgun for Bishop a couple of weeks ago at a local shop for $279. ?Bishop pawned a number of electronic items to get money to buy it, saying he needed the weapon for protection from gang members, according to the sheriff?s office.

Bishop has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, the sheriff said. He requires medication for his mental health issues and reportedly had not always taken his medication as required, according to investigators.

The sheriff said Bishop was still on probation for a 2011 domestic battery incident in which he allegedly struck his mother and tried to strangle her.?
