The Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX is a 2TB 3.5-inch internal hard drive that operates over the 6Gbps SATA III interface and has a cache of 64MB.
Western Digital's Caviar Green line of drives utilize a number of technologies designed to use less power, operate at lower temperatures, and generate less noise and vibration?than a typical 3.5-inch drive. These include IntelliSeek, which WD claims "calculates optimum seek speeds"; IntelliPower, "a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate, and caching algorithms"; and NoTouch ramp load technology, which keeps the recording head from ever touching the disk drive, thereby reducing wear and protecting the drive in transit. Caviar Green drives also support Advanced Format, which is a more efficient way of organizing data that allows for increase areal densities.
Because of their lower power usage and other features, Caviar Green drives spin at a rate slower than the desktop standard of 7,200rpm.
