Iran has pulled members of a special forces unit stationed in Syria, the Sunday Times reported, in response to mounting criticism of the cost of Tehran's involvement in the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad. Tehran's Grand Bazaar reopened under close police supervision on Saturday, traders said, days after it was shut by clashes between riot police and protesters blaming the government for the collapse of the Iranian currency. On Wednesday, riot police fired tear gas, fought demonstrators and arrested money changers in and around the bazaar. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blamed speculators for the rial's slide, which is eating into

One thing that was absent from the first presidential debate was the truth?the word truth that is. A glimpse at the debate transcript reveals that the word never came up at all, while true came up twice in an exchange of more than 16,000 words. Each candidate used it once, Mitt Romney indirectly to accuse the president of lying about his platform, Barack Obama overtly in his admission that health care premiums have risen since the passage of Obamacare two years ago. The Obama campaign has announced plans to change all that in the second debate. In fact they intend

A liberal reporter speaking at a conference in Georgetown recently dismissed conservative alarms about the Obama administration's mandate that forces religious institutions--like Catholic Hospitals and Evangelical colleges--to provide coverage for drugs and procedures that can abortions and that effect sterilizations. "What about the anti-Catholic Bible riots in Philadelphia in the 1840s," she asked. Those led to scores of people actually being killed.'' (Snip) James Madison famously said the people are right to take alarm at the "first advance on their liberties." The Obama Mandate will force us to violate our consciences. President Obama famously said he doesn't know when human

I understand that gun owners? rights and the Second Amendment haven?t really been a touchstone in this year?s elections, but that doesn?t mean that the battle isn?t still being waged. One story out this month hits pretty close to home for me, both figuratively and literally. It involves the Remington Arms plant located in Ilion, a village in upstate New York. (Snip) Microstamping does not work because firing pins are inexpensive and easy to replace. The firing pin for most weapons are easily replaced by someone with a minimum of ability to read and follow the basic cleaning directions for

Wednesday the public got to see the president as I have always seen him -- a lazy, superficial thinker who is over his head as Chief Executive. There were so many witty tweets and columns that our side of the aisle was kept laughing as the night wore on. "Mene mene tekel upharsin", tweeted the great Iowahawk, reminding readers of the words written by a mysterious hand that to the Biblical Daniel correctly signified the end of a king (Belshazzar) and his reign.

A presidential reelection campaign needs three key elements: a defense of the incumbent?s record, a successful effort to define the opposition and a compelling vision of a second term. President Obama may well celebrate a second term in Chicago next month, but the conventional wisdom underestimates the difficulty he faces, as his campaign has distinct problems with all three elements. His defense of his record is exceptionally weak, his effort to define Mitt Romney is nearly exhausted, and his vision for the next four years ? perhaps the most important ? has been largely missing from

The Obama campaign has been reeling since losing the first Presidential debate of this election cycle in front of 67 million viewers. They've tried--and thus far failed--to craft a narrative to explain away the debacle in Denver. Previously, we reported to you that Obama Senior Advisor David Plouffe, who ran the President's successful 2008 campaign, (falsely) accused Mitt Romney of lying. In a rare comedic moment from the typically robotic former Vice President Al Gore, he suggested on Current TV that the Mile High City's altitude was the reason Obama was low on energy and

The New York Times reports that the Obama administration has abandoned its limited goal of a negotiated settlement with the Taliban, leaving the Afghans to do it in the years after we leave. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi rebuffed President Obama's call for free speech in the aftermath of the Arab Spring, calling in his United Nations speech for repression of any speech that offends Islam. President Obama intervened militarily in Libya after his then-defense secretary, Bob Gates, said America had no national security stake in that nation. The result, in the words of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,

There?s no doubt President Obama?s liberal supporters are worried by his lackluster performance in the Denver debate. ?Everyone is in shock,? one show-business liberal told the Hollywood reporter. ?No one can understand what happened.? The Obama faithful are offering the White House advice, talking points, pep talks ? anything to improve the president?s performance when he next faces Mitt Romney at Hofstra University on October 16. But for some liberal writers, the concern goes deeper. Perhaps Obama?s somewhat withdrawn demeanor at the debate was an indication that he doesn?t even want a second term as president.

Obama senior campaign adviser David Axelrod on Sunday said Republican Mitt Romney delivered a ?very good performance? at the first presidential debate that was ?completely un-rooted in fact? and the president was ?taken aback at the brazenness? of the Republican nominee's answers.(snip)As for why Obama did not address Romney?s ?47 percent? comments at the debate, Axelrod said ?the president obviously didn?t see the appropriate opportunity.? ?The president was earnestly trying to answer questions that were asked on the topics that were being discussed, and he didn?t find the opportunity to raise it, and it?s obviously well known,? Axelrod said.

President Obama's star-studded fundraising concert Sunday at Nokia Theater -- with the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder and Katy Perry -- is expected to snarl traffic in the area. The president is expected to arrive Sunday to attend several functions, Los Angeles police said in a statement. Details were not available, but police said his motorcade would move through the Westside on Sunday afternoon, with temporary street closures. In late afternoon, the motorcade will travel to downtown Los Angeles for more events, with potential brief closures along the 10 Freeway and streets
